The Best Way to Socialize and Find Loot in Second Life!
Second Life has become a vast, dynamic virtual world – and SL hunts are kind of the best kept secret behind its success.
SL hunts are the most logical next steps for newbies as they move on from Learning Island. They offer an easy way to meet new people, discover unique destinations, and score valuable loot.
The organizers of SL hunts also often schedule additional events, including concerts and trivia games, at their start/end locations.
To that end, they aren’t just meant for newbies. Existing residents can still find trendy new styles and destinations while expanding their social circles. And, business owners can attract visitors while enhancing the overall experience. It’s a win-win!
The posts featured in this collection showcase our favorite SL hunts across the grid. Join us as we find loot, explore new places, and meet awesome people.
We’ll also guide you on must-see experiences, offer helpful advice on which hunts offer the loot you hope to score, and include a few tips along the way.
You might be wondering where to start with hunts if you’re new to the Grid. The first place is an easy one: Second Life’s events section! Click the “all categories” drop down menu just above the event listings (below and to the right of the featured event description).
Then, choose “Games/Contests.”
Finally, search the listings for a hunt!
SL hunts are typically hosted monthly, so you may not always see a hunt listed here. Don’t worry, they’ll be there eventually!
As you explore Second Life, you’ll find that most hunts are tied to a group. Join those groups to receive alerts of the start and end dates for hunts.
Local and scavenger hunts are the most common types in Second Life. Local hunts typically occur in a single experience or region. The host will hide items and clues around their area for participants to find.
Scavenger hunts send participants to different regions across the grid in search of treasure. Each location includes a clue that leads to its treasure. The treasure box includes a teleportation link to the next location.
SL scavenger hunts typically start and end at a central location (often serving as the headquarters). That location usually includes welcome guides for new participants, a list of sponsors, and an invitation to join the hunt’s group.
Most organizers also will also host additional events at the headquarters. They may hire musicians, host screenings, or even hire storytellers. They may also host sales with discounted items from sponsors.
